Did You Know?

From school wide programs to Charitable food drives - if it's happening at NCRC, then you should know about it!

Sit back and read more about what our community it up to - because we have a lot to share.

Spirit Week at NCRC

From Monday, March 6th through Friday, March 10th, NCRC was simply bursting with spirit! To properly celebrate the birthday of Dr. Seuss (March 2nd), each day of Spirit Week was tied to a classic Seuss story that helped dictate the theme. Children and teachers alike went above and beyond when it came to dressing up and having fun!

Monday – Pajama Day (Sleep Book)

Pajama Day is tough not to love, especially on a Monday. Kids couldn't get enough of the novelty of being at school in their jammies, and parents appreciated that their morning routine required one less step! When kids entered the building, they were able to pick a prediction station and guess how many pencils or erasers were in a jar, with the most accurate predictions announced later that day.

Tuesday – Wacky Hat Day (The Cat in the Hat)

From derby-style fascinators to eye-catching homemade creations, Wacky Hat Day was an attention getter! All headgear was on parade as kids practiced holding a book while walking a balance beam in the entryway. Many parents couldn't bear to be left out of the fun and made sure to sport their wacky hats as well!

Wednesday – Crazy Colors Day (My Many Colored Days)

Crazy Colors Day was so bright, you needed to wear your shades! Kids donned creative color combinations, and the giggles could be heard throughout the building as they crawled through a gigantic rainbow tunnel upon entering. During Art in the Park, children created their own finger puppet characters out of recycled materials.

Thursday – Silly Sock Day (Fox in Socks)

Silly Sock Day also happened to be a "75 degrees in March" day, which meant that silly socks led to even sillier kids! From stripes and polka-dots to crazy patterns and homemade creations, socks of all kinds were on display in the beautiful sunshine. A few kids and teachers even decided to wear "invisible socks" with their sandals!

Friday – Book Character Day

Book Character Day was truly one for the, well, books! Kids and teachers alike went all out when it came to dressing like their favorite literary character, and the NCRC halls were filled with the likes of The Lorax, Pinkalicious, and The Very Hungry Caterpillar, among countless others. Upon each class' visit to the library, kids voted on their favorite book from the week, which were tracked a March Madness-style bracket.

Special thanks to Karin Steinmann and Marian Brice for an incredible Spirit Week!

Holiday Drive for the Black Student Fund

On Monday, December 12th, NCRC concluded a holiday drive to benefit the Black Student Fund, a local non-profit organization developed in 1964 that dedicates itself to "maintaining access to independent schools for black children from low to modest income households."

The outpouring of support from the NCRC community was fantastic. On pick-up day, a group of Bunny students joyfully plucked toys from the donation bin to walk down the sidewalk and deliver to the waiting BSF volunteer. "Doesn't helping others make your heart feel warm and happy?" one of the Bunnies was asked. They smiled and replied, "It does!" Yet another wonderful way to extend the reach of our school's incredible community, especially during the holiday season.

Grandparent Gingerbread Workshop

On Saturday, December 10th, a group of NCRC students and their grandparents spent the morning constructing gingerbread houses together (and snacking on some of the sweet siding) at the annual Grandparent Gingerbread Workshop. Graciously hosted by the grandparents of a current NCRC student, the event was full of careful architectural planning, frosting-tasting, stories from Dr. Wise, and lots of love.

Grandparents are a cherished part of our school community, because at NCRC, it's great to be grand!
