Parent Volunteer Form

Room Parents

Room Parents serve as school leaders, keeping the parent community informed and involved. In addition, teachers in every classroom depend on room parents for support and assistance throughout the year. This is a great way to get involved in your child’s class. Each class has three room parents.

NCRC Events

Family Work Day

We kick off the new school year with a family fun event that draws a big and spirited NCRC crowd. Parents and children pitch in to plant new shrubbery, repair, paint and spruce up the school grounds. Parent volunteers direct work crews, arrange refreshments, publicize the event, coordinate the delivery of flowers to our neighbors, and baby-sit younger siblings in the playhouse.

Pumpkin Party

This event is one of the highlights of the school year! The playground is magically transformed into a fall festival complete with treasure hunts, face painting, crafts, music, food (pizza!) and lots more. Parent volunteers oversee class booths and decorations; coordinate refreshments and entertainment; and assist with set-up and clean-up.

Tuition Assistance Auction

Each year, we come together to celebrate NCRC and support Tuition Assistance at the Auction. Virtually all parents will come to share a cocktail, enjoy a festive meal, and bid on the many items donated by generous businesses and NCRC families and friends. All net proceeds from the evening will go to the Tuition Assistance Fund and to NCRC's endowment. Planning and preparing for this celebration is a community-wide endeavor and a great way for parents to meet one another, work collectively for a great cause and simply have fun. We need everyone’s assistance and welcome all levels of participation!

Winter Celebration

This warm celebration of winter is filled with singing, stories, food, and lots of good cheer! Volunteers coordinate refreshments and entertainment in conjunction with our music teachers, and assist with decorations, set-up, and clean-up.

Pajama Picnic

Pajama Picnic is the last community-wide event of the school year where families are invited to the NCRC playground for an evening of songs and fun!

Staff Appreciation Luncheon

Our parents host a Staff Appreciation Luncheon in the Motor Room in May to celebrate the wonderful teachers and administrators at NCRC.

NCRC Committees

Shutterbug

Throughout the year, teachers and administrators take photos of your children to share with you in class newsletters, school publications, and social media. Join the Shutterbug Committee and help contribute photos to our collection throughout the year! Shutterbug Committee helps photograph and gives NCRC permission to use their photos.

NCRC Fund

The NCRC Fund is the school's most important source of revenue other than tuition. It is a vital part of the annual operating budget and supports the school's mission in every way.

DICE (Diversity, Inclusion, Cultural Competence, Equity)

Mission: NCRC's DICE Committee fosters the school's mission and seeks to bring awareness to four pillars - diversity inclusion, equity, and cultural competence - to create a respectful and kind community wherein the whole child is nurtured, families feel supported, and staff members are valued.

The committee is open to the entire community, and welcomes broad participation by all!

Hospitality

The Hospitality Committee helps organize and staff two main events at the school - Back To School Night in the fall, and the New Parent Reception in the spring.

Community Outreach

Parents on this committee support NCRC's efforts to teach children to develop an awareness of the world inside and outside NCRC by helping with the Planetpal and sustainability programs, World Days, Art in the Park, the Olympics, and charitable drives.

Sustainability

Sustainability is a big part of NCRC's mission. Throughout the year, families take part in Earth Week, recycling initiatives, and more.

Library & Book Fairs

NCRC provides children with a love of literature. Parents are encouraged to come in and read to the classes throughout the year.

Upshur Street Books hosts a book fair at NCRC in December. In the spring, NCRC participates in a one-day book fair at Politics & Prose.

NCRC Publications (The Preschooler & Yearbook)

The Preschooler is NCRC's parent-run newsletter.

At the end of the year, every NCRC family receives a complimentary yearbook that parents help produce.
