Community & Parent Engagement

Icon Navigation

At NCRC, our greatest source of strength is our community. Throughout the school year, we provide myriad opportunities for parents, caregivers, and alumni to engage in meaningful ways with fellow families and the greater NCRC community—all in support of the NCRC mission.

ALL-SCHOOL FAMILY EVENTS & CELEBRATIONS

Throughout the school year, our families comes together to support the school and to connect with the NCRC community. From Family Work Day (to spruce up our playground in the fall), to our spring On the Yard Homecoming Celebration, extended families are always welcome and encouraged to join our gatherings. Events are organized by different groups within NCRC and event details will be highlighted throughout the year.

PARENT EDUCATION

Our parent education series includes a variety of morning, evening, and Zoom learning opportunities on a wide range of topics related to child development, education, diversity, and parenting. The Parent Education Program is coordinated by Judith Wides, Director of Counseling and Family Support, and Ashley Nartey, Director of Diversity, Equity, and Community. Speakers may include faculty and staff, members of the Child Development Team, Judith Wides, Ashley Nartey, and special guests.

CAREGIVER EVENTS

Twice yearly NCRC welcomes caregivers (nannies, au pairs, and babysitters) to the NCRC playground for dinner and socializing as a way to honor the important roles these caregivers play in the lives of our students and their families. This event is hosted by Ms. Judith and Ms. Nartey

FALL & SPRING OUTDOOR EDUCATION TRIPS

Current and alumni families enjoy overnight camping trips and day-long outings offered in collaboration with Horizons Outdoor Learning Center. These trips are coordinated by Patrick Douville, Director of Auxiliary Programs.

PARENT AFFILIATION GROUPS

Parent Association (PA): The NCRC Parent Association fosters an engaged and collaborative community by facilitating events and outreach efforts which support each tenet of the school’s mission. For questions, please email NCRCPA@ncrcpreschool.org.

HUG (Historically Underrepresented Groups): If you or your child identify as a member of an historically underrepresented group—e.g., family of color, multiracial, international, bilingual, LGBTQIA+—you are a welcome member of HUG. Affinity groups within HUG provide opportunities for individuals with a common or shared identifier, to connect and speak from an “I” perspective.

PHILANTHROPIC GIVING & PARTICIPATION

Philanthropy is at the root of NCRC’s founding and plays a critical role in advancing our mission. Throughout the school year, there are several fun and easy opportunities to participate, from soliciting items for the Spring Benefit for Tuition Assistance or reaching out to classroom parents. For questions about philanthropy, volunteer opportunities, or to learn more about hosting a leadership event, please contact Catherine Paschal, Director of Development.
