Annual Traditions & Events

Throughout the year, we offer myriad opportunities for parents, students, and alumni families connect and engage with the following community-building traditions and events. Each event is generously supported by faculty, parents, and caregivers, and directly supports the NCRC mission:

FAMILY WORK DAY
NCRC kicks off each fall with an annual family gathering to help spruce up the preschool grounds.

PUMPKIN PARTY
A beloved annual tradition, the school community gathers on the NCRC playground to celebrate fall and take part in games, crafts, and other fun activities.

WINTERFEST
A new family gathering for the 2023–24 school year, join us on the playground to celebrate the beginning of winter break.

NCRC "ON THE YARD" HOMECOMING
Inspired by traditions of Historically Black Colleges and Universities, On the Yard welcomes all former students, alumni, families, and friends "home" to celebrate, share, play, and grow.

BOOK FAIR

Our spring book fair is an ideal way to add to your own collection as well as those of your favorite teachers!

TUITION ASSISTANCE BENEFIT

Each spring NCRC holds an annual Tuition Assistance Benefit for adults in our community. All net proceeds from the Benefit support our tuition assistance program.

PAJAMA PICNIC

A fun weekend opportunity for families to gather on the NCRC playground at the end of each school year.

PARENT DISCUSSIONS
Led by our Child Development Team and Director of Diversity, Equity, and Community, topics include everything from potty training, Brain Gym, our Engine Run Program, and Rattles to Writing, and etc.

FAMILY OUTDOOR EDUCATION PROGRAMS
During autumn and spring, our students have the opportunity to visit Horizons Outdoor Learning Center, located in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Virginia. Camp Horizons is an overnight camp dedicated to encouraging campers to be creative and independent individuals, develop strong teamwork skills, and most importantly, to have fun.
